The VE score

Volumetric Efficiency = max cargo volume × EPA combined MPGe, ranked within each vehicle class. It answers “how much stuff does this car move per unit of fuel?” — a number that makes a hybrid minivan look like the engineering marvel it is.

Where the data comes from

• Fuel economy and the model catalog: EPA bulk data, refreshed weekly.
• Cargo volumes: manufacturer spec pages, extracted automatically and cited.
• Floor/opening dimensions: mostly community tape measures — reviewed, cited, and version-controlled like a wiki.
